The story is one that stands apart from the alien abduction conspiracy story of the television series. Unlike the first film, the plot does not focus on the series' ongoing "mytharc" and instead works as a standalone thriller/horror story, similar to many of the "Monster-of-The-Week" episodes that were frequently seen in the TV series.
